Regency Period Mahogany Wine Cooler

REF: 3198

A fine quality Regency period mahogany wine cooler of sarcophagus form, the top with two half roundels flanking the domed section, well figured timbers on scrolled feet above the plinth with excellent original gilt bronze side handles.

Wine-coolers and Cellarettes were widely used from the 18th century & throughout the 19th century for chilling wine. They tend to be wooden, often mahogany or oak strengthened with brass bands to the outer edge, and lead-lined with a bung to release melted ice.
