Late 19th Century Wine Cooler

REF: 3146

A mahogany late 19th century oval wine cooler with well-cast gilt bronze rams heads between two broad circular gilded brass bands, the base with arcaded reeding above the four tapering square supports.

Wine-coolers and Cellarettes were widely used from the 18th century & throughout the 19th century for chilling wine. They tend to be wooden, often mahogany or oak strengthened with brass bands to the outer edge, and lead-lined with a bung to release melted ice.
