A late 19th century oval mahogany planter or champagne cooler. Bound with brass, of coopered construction on very slightly flared, tapering supports ending in the original shoes and casters.

Wine-coolers and Cellarettes were widely used from the 18th century & throughout the 19th century for chilling wine. They tend to be wooden, often mahogany or oak strengthened with brass bands to the outer edge, and lead-lined with a bung to release melted ice.
