An oval mahogany wine cooler/jardinière of George I design, made late 19th century with lion mask handles and on cabriole supports.

Wine-coolers and Cellarettes were widely used from the 18th century & throughout the 19th century for chilling wine. They tend to be wooden, often mahogany or oak strengthened with brass bands to the outer edge, and lead-lined with a bung to release melted ice.
